UGANDA RELAXES COVID-19 REQUIREMENTS FOR ALL TRAVELERS

The Ugandan government has put an end to the requirement of Valid 72 hours’ Negative PCR COVID-19 Test Certificate for all fully Vaccinated travelers and children below 5 years of age unless your destination country and flight /Airline requires one. Otherwise, you can now enter and exit Entebbe International Airport and cross Borders without worrying about this PCR TEST CERTIFICATE.

On Wednesday,27th April, Uganda suspended all restrictions for fully Vaccinated travelers to and out of the country.

While Addressing journalists, Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng; the Minister of Health stated that all fully Vaccinated travelers to and out of Uganda will no longer require the Mandatory Negative 72hours’ PCR Test Certificate when boarding a plane.

But Dr Jane Ruth Aceng further stated that for travelers whose next destinations and Airlines require the 72 hours’ Test Certificate may still need to present one.

This directive, comes after the public statement issued by Dr Henry Mwebasa – Director general Health Services at Ministry of health on March 28th,2022 bringing an end to COVID -19 Tests to all travelers (truck drivers inclusive) crossing at the various border points of Busia, Tororo, Kasese, Kabale, Katuna, and Ntungamo among others. He was actually adhering to the request of the East African Community Council Agreement as per its sitting early January,2022 to ease intercountry covid-19 regulations to promote East African economic recovery.

During her speech, she also explained the country’s laid out plan to further capture the spread of COVID -19 throughout the country for good. Uganda having maintained a low COVID-19 transmission since it’s the pandemic outbreak in Decmber,2019. She affirmed that this was only possible due to the various SOPs regulations the Ugandan government with its health ministry put in place and the support of Ugandans who strictly recognized and follow these measures.

Dr.Jane Ruth Aceng also encouraged Ugandans to get Vaccinated as she mentioned “the 2 very ill COVID-19 patients who were admitted at Mulago hospital and not yet vaccinated” she also suggested the health ministry’s plan to vaccinate all secondary students once the schools resumed operating this May.

These are the currently uplifted travel restrictions and requirements for all travelers to and out of Uganda via Entebbe International Airport and at Borders;

  1. The Mandatory PCR Testing for all incoming travelers on arrival at Entebbe International Airport was suspended since 16thFebrury,2022 as well as PCR testing for all travelers crossing at the Ugandan orders on 28thMarch,2022 and this still holds.                                                            In addition to this, all travelers entering and exiting Uganda will follow the new regulations that’s;
  2. All travelers into and out of Uganda via Entebbe International Airport and at the different borders of Busia, Katuna, Kabale, Malaba, Mutukula, Ntungamo, etc have to present their Covid-19 full Vaccination Certificates except for children of 5 years and below.

Fully Vaccinated travelers into and out of Uganda are exempted from the Negative 72 hours’ PCR test certificate except in cases where it’s needed for entry into your destination country and Airline.

  • For partially Vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers, have to provide Negative 72 hours’ PCR Test Certificate with an exemption of children of 5 years and below.
  • Wearing Face Masks; It’s important to continue wearing Masks when in public places and indoors like areas of big crowds, private offices, shopping malls, schools, bus stations and in public vehicles (Bus) among others to avoid infecting one another even if fully Vaccinated.

Also, for tourists trekking for the mountain gorillas, chimpanzees and golden Monkeys, will definitely WEAR MASKS while at these Encounters.

Though, while outdoors and in small crowds, fully vaccinated individuals can stay without a Mask

Please Note: The Elderly and Vulnerable individuals whether fully Vaccinated or not, have to keep wearing their Masks at all times.

Also, it’s important to always change these Masks after each use.

  • Travelers will continue to undergo screening for covid-19 symptoms like high temperatures and colds at the different locations.
  • Lastly but not least, since the covid-19 pandemic outbreak, all Ugandan Visas can are obtained online via Visas.immigration.go.ug and There’s NO Visa Issuing at Arrivals. In addition to this, you must have a Valid Passport and Yellow Fever Vaccination Certificate for entry into Uganda.
