Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary Uganda

Discover Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – Uganda’s Only Wild Rhino Tracking Experience

Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is one of Uganda’s most important conservation success stories and a must-visit destination for travellers seeking a complete safari experience. Located in Nakasongola District, this sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where you can track rhinos on foot in the wild (in their natural habitat).

Established in 2005, the sanctuary was created to reintroduce rhinos to Uganda after they were wiped out by poaching and conflict in the 1980s. Today, it has grown into a thriving conservation area with a steadily increasing population of southern white rhinos.

What makes Ziwa truly special is the opportunity to track rhinos on foot, offering a rare and intimate wildlife experience that sets it apart from traditional game drives.

Ziwa offers an intimate, guided walking safari that brings you close to southern white rhinos in their natural habitat. Therefore, it plays a crucial role in restoring Uganda’s “Big Five” wildlife heritage.
