In Africa, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is one of the most frequently visited World Heritage sites under UNESCO.

It lies between the mountain forests and plain forest in southwest Uganda, the mountain forests extend into Virunga National Park of The Democratic Republic of Congo, Mgahinga National Park of Uganda, and the Volcanoes of Rwanda via Mt Sabyinyo and Mt Muhabura, the plain forests stretch to Queen Elizabeth National Park and Kibale Forest National Park.

Bwindi Forest National Park covers an area of about 330 Square kilometers; area just enough to handle Bwindi’s bio diversified population of over 500 of the world’s existing mountain gorillas, about 350 bird species, over 100 mammals,165 tree species, about 250 butterfly species,100 ferns and several beautiful flowers and wildlife species like the forest elephants, monkeys, forest buffalos, chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, etc.

Bwindi Forest National Park is home to over 15 habituated mountain gorilla family groups distributed in the different sectors of Buhoma, Ruhinja, Rushaga, and Nkuringo.The park located in the districts of Kabale, Kisoro, and Kanungu.

All four sectors are readily open for Tourism and travelers can visit any time of the year depending on one’s taste and preference.

Because of the thick dense canopy floors and dense rain forest trees,Bwindi Forest can only be accessed on foot.
