OVER VIEW

In Uganda, Mountain gorillas can be trekked at Bwindi Forest National Park and Mgahinga National Park.

Both Bwindi Forest Impenetrable National Park and Mgahinga National Park are Uganda’s only homes to half of the world’s surviving mountain gorillas.

These wonderful habitats to mountain gorillas are found in southwestern Uganda in the districts of Kanungu, Kabale, and Kisoro.

Mountain gorillas can be trekked for, all year round; depending on individual preferences, the dry or the wet seasons are considered ideal or the best time to trek for the gorillas.

During the dry seasons, the roads are easier to use and it’s easier hiking through the dense forest in search for the mountain gorillas; however, expect to hike for longer hours before locating the gorillas as they tend to move deeper into the forest in search of fresh food and shelter thus more time spent hiking for the gorillas.

On the other hand, the wet seasons are considered the best time for trekking for mountain gorillas by some tourists due to fact that during the rainy seasons, there’s abundant succulent fresh food for the mountain gorillas and readily available shelter hence less movements by the mountain gorillas and this allows trackers to find the gorillas after moving a short distance hence a simplified gorilla trek.

Though during the rainy seasons, the floor is usually wet, dump and slippery hence a challenging hike for the tourists.

Important to note, Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is a tropical region and rains can fall at any time of the year and day and no matter when you visit Bwindi, equal satisfaction is derived from an encounter with the mountain gorillas.

Not forgetting to always have the right gorilla trekking gear with rain jacket, water proof backpack for your gadgets among others.
