Your adventure begins early, with a 4:00 AM pick-up from your Kigali hotel for a scenic 2-hour drive to Volcanoes National Park. The journey takes you through lush countryside, rolling hills, and terraced farms.
At the park headquarters in Kinigi, join other trekkers for a safety briefing led by park rangers. They’ll assign you to one of the 10 habituated gorilla families based on your fitness level.
The trek can take 1 to 4 hours depending on the gorillas’ location. You’ll hike through dense bamboo forests and uneven terrain, but the reward is worth it. Coming face-to-face with mountain gorillas in their natural habitat is a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Spend one hour observing the gorillas—watch the playful young ones, the powerful silverbacks, and nurturing mothers. It’s an awe-inspiring encounter with a species that shares 98% of their DNA with humans.
After the trek, return to the park headquarters and later, relax at your lodge.

After breakfast, head to Kinigi Park Office for a morning briefing before starting the Mount Bisoke hike. This dormant volcano, standing at 3,711 metres, offers a challenging but rewarding climb.
The hike starts at 7:00 AM and takes 4–6 hours, depending on your pace and the weather. Experienced guides and armed rangers will accompany you for safety.
Reaching the summit is the highlight of the hike. You’ll be greeted by a stunning crater lake often veiled in mist, creating a magical atmosphere. From here, enjoy panoramic views of the Virunga Mountains spanning Rwanda, Uganda, and Congo.
After a break at the summit, descend back to the base, where you’ll enjoy lunch. Then, begin the drive back to Kigali, marking the end of your adventure.
